What Is a Hybrid Denture?
Another solution for missing teeth is to get hybrid fixed detachable dentures. These dentures are different from your traditional dentures. The implants will create a stable prosthetic replacement for teeth. The implant-supported prosthesis is a “hybrid denture,” referred to as a hybrid because it combines the advantages of a fixed replacement with those of a removable denture.
Different From Your Traditional Dentures
It is a cross between a traditional denture and a fixed bridge. Usually when there is a considerable amount of bone loss in your jaw and you don't want to have teeth removed, a hybrid denture is the best solution.
How Do They Work?
A hybrid denture is attached by four or more implants in the jaw, depending on the jawbone size and shape. After the implants heal, they are connected to abutments (connectors) that can be screwed into a metal framework. The hybrid denture is fixed and does not require removal every day like regular dentures because it is screw-retained into the implants.
Are These for You?
A person that has always wanted fixed teeth and is wearing dentures may be a candidate for hybrid fixed detachable dentures. This is especially true for individuals who are not ready for individual implants for each missing tooth.

Benefits of Hybrid
Removable dentures tend to feel bulky and are typically very uncomfortable. Hybrid dentures are minimally intrusive, and the upper denture leaves the roof of the mouth open. This allows for a natural feel and lets you enjoy the taste of your food more. Hybrid dentures also are more stable and do not move and shift against your jaw ridge. This prevents you from having soreness, which can happen beneath dentures when food and seeds get trapped under them.
Taking Care of Them
Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial to long-term success, as with any dental replacement. Hybrid dentures are made to leave a space between the hybrid dentures and jawbone so you can access underneath the denture for ease of cleaning. It is advised that two times a year you have Dr. Barriere unscrew the hybrid dentures and have a professional cleaning done.
